WASHINGTON, D.C. - In response to the continued post election protests in Iran, United States Representative John Campbell (CA-48) today became a cosponsor of House Resolution 549, introduced by Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (IN-6). The resolution expresses support for all Iranian citizens who struggle for freedom, human rights, civil liberties, and the protection of the rule of law.
After cosponsoring the resolution, Campbell said, "Clearly, many viewed this election as a referendum on the leadership of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and based on reports from Iran, the results of the election appear to be highly suspect. The United States has a moral responsibility to stand up for freedom and democracy throughout the world, and we cannot stand idly by while the human rights of Iranian citizens are assailed." Campbell said further, "President Obama must stop apologizing for the faults of the United States and begin actively working to restore stability in the region. This includes preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons to Iran and protecting our allies throughout the region."Representative Campbell was elected to Congress in a special election in 2005. He is a member of the House Financial Services Committee and House Committee on the Budget. He is Co-Chairman of the US-UK Caucus and is a member of the House Missile Defense Caucus. Campbell has a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the UCLA and a Master's Degree in Business Taxation from USC.
