NEWPORT BEACH – U.S. Representative John Campbell (CA-48) recently announced that thirteen students throughout the 48th Congressional District of California received appointments to U.S. Service Academies.  Congressman Campbell stated, “I was honored to nominate these 13 young men and women who have committed themselves to defending the United States of America.”

Campbell went on to say, “The service academies are physically, mentally, and academically challenging.  However I am confident that these young men and women will excel and emerge as strong and capable leaders.  I am very proud of them and wish them nothing but the best.”

Each year, Representative Campbell nominates outstanding high school graduates from the 48th Congressional District of California for consideration for appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland; the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York.  The selection process is competitive and is based on scholastic and academic records, extracurricular activities, leadership traits, motivation, and aptitude for military service. Nominations are open to residents of the 48th Congressional District who are at least 17, but less than 23 years of age by July 1 of the year of admission.
