Campbell Named to Joint Economic Committee

United States Representative John Campbell (CA-48) today was named by Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) to the Joint Economic Committee (JEC). In a statement, Boehner said: “John is a natural choice for the Joint Economic Committee. His education, business experience, and background as a CPA will enable him to make a profound impact upon the committee. In recent months, he has emerged as a strong national voice for this issue, and I look forward to working together with him to help resolve America’s economic crisis.”
The Joint Economic Committee is a bicameral Congressional Committee composed of ten members from each the Senate and the House of Representatives. The JEC was established by the Employment Act of 1946 (Public Law 304). Its main purpose is to make a continuing study of matters relating to the US economy. The Committee holds hearings, performs research and advises Members of Congress.
Upon being appointed to the JEC, Campbell said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on this committee. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in order to achieve a sensible solution to our nation’s economic troubles.“
Representative Campbell was elected to Congress in a special election in 2005. He is also a member of the House Financial Services Committee and House Committee on the Budget. Prior to his election to Congress, Campbell was elected to the California State Assembly in 2000 and the California State Senate in 2004. He brings over 25 years of experience in the automotive industry and is also a Certified Public Accountant who, prior to his automotive career, was a tax accountant with what is now Ernst & Young in Los Angeles. Campbell has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the UCLA and a Master’s Degree in Business Taxation from USC.
