New York City to get $151.6 million in Homeland Security funds

Federal money for preparedness and security designated for New York will rise slightly in 2010 funding announced by the Department of Homeland Security Thursday.
Under the Urban Area Security Initiative, one of the key programs for major cities, New York City will get $151.6 million. That's up 4 percent from what the city won last year.
And in the State Homeland Security Grant Program, under which counties and local agencies compete to win money for security projects, New York was awarded $113.5 million, up 1 percent from last year.
"It's a small increase; New York and Long Island could certainly use more," said Rep. Pete King (R-Seaford), the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee. "But in the real world in which we live, it's as good as we can expect right now."
