ADIC Demarest Briefs Congressman Peter King on Recent Criminal and Counterterrorism Successes

Today, FBI Assistant Director in Charge (ADIC) Joseph Demarest briefed U.S. Representative Peter T. King (R-NY) on several cases affecting his district and ways to improve interagency communication. ADIC Demarest gave Congressman King a tour of the multi-agency New York Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) and while there, Congressman King spoke with many of the agents, analysts, and task force members conducting investigations every day. Also in attendance were FBI JTTF members Chief James Shea of the New York Police Department (NYPD), Captain Robert Gregory of the New York State Police, and Chief George Albin of the Port Authority Police Department.

"As Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee and a Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, I am committed to protecting the great people of New York from terrorism. Today, I join the FBI in support of a forward-leaning posture, as we must never let our guard down," said Representative King.
"We are proud to have Congressman King here today to see first hand the hard working investigators and analysts in the FBI's New York Division. We appreciate his continued efforts to ensure that New York and Long Island receive the Homeland Security funding needed for our state, local, and federal law enforcement departments to defend against terrorist attacks," said Assistant Director in Charge Joseph M. Demarest, Jr.
In 1980, the FBI in New York stood up the first JTTF with just 10 agents and 10 detectives from NYPD. Today, it is by far the largest task force with over 400 FBI agents, analysts, and task force members from more than 40 agencies.
