Sen. Franken Visits Apple Valley Elementary School
Recently, Sen. Franken toured the Cedar Park Elementary School in Apple Valley and met with school and local officials about the importance of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The Cedar Park Elementary School is a magnet school which stresses STEM skills.
Sen. Franken has been a strong advocate for STEM educations and has often stressed the importance of manufacturing jobs in Minnesota. While the students he met with were a bit young to be making career choices, Sen. Franken had very productive conversations with the school admininstrators, district officials, and non-school partners about the importance of science and early childhood education. He also discussed his School Principle Recruitment and Training Act, which he authored with Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). Sen. Franken praised Principle John Garcia, the principle of Cedar Park Elementary, as being an perfect example "of someone who really turned a school around and made a big difference."
