10 steps, 10 stops and 1,200 miles across
Wyoming for better health care:
Senator Enzi's 10 Steps, 10 Stops Tour

Senator Enzi took to the road in March 2008 to draw attention to the nation’s health care crisis and the steps Congress can take to wrangle health care costs in America.

From March 17 through March 20, Enzi covered more than 1,200 miles, stopping in 10 Wyoming towns, to discuss his “10 Steps to Transform Health Care in America” bill.

“With 46.1 million Americans living without health insurance, we cannot continue to allow partisan politicking to stand in the way of real reform.  We must begin a national debate to examine the whole health care system, and together we must put forward a bold and comprehensive solution that addresses our health care crisis now,” Enzi said.  “That’s what my 10 Steps plan does, and that’s why I took my plan on the road around the state – to put a strong local and national focus on the country’s health care problem and the need for the Senate to enact real reform."

The health care crisis is particularly acute in Wyoming where, on average, one in five Wyoming residents is uninsured and more and more residents are losing what coverage they do have, according to Enzi.  The problem is exacerbated by the fact that 70 percent of Wyoming employers are small businesses, who find it nearly impossible to afford health care coverage for their employees, Enzi said.

At each of the 10 stops, Enzi discussed the health care crisis in this country and his 10 Steps proposal to ensure that all Americans have access to affordable, quality health care.  While on the road, he also kept a blog and photo gallery of his journey.

Enzi’s “10 Steps to Transform Health Care in America” bill, S. 1783, encompasses 10 comprehensive steps that Congress can take to reform health care, including market-based pooling and equalizing tax treatment of health insurance for all Americans.
