Updated Thompson Statement on Cargo Plane Suspicious Packages

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Friday, October 29, 2010

October 29, 2010 (WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following regarding the investigation of suspicious packages being found on cargo planes bound for the United States:

“Initial reports stating there were no explosives were incorrect, but that is no cause for alarm. Our system is working thanks to exemplary interagency coordination. These new facts remind us that this is an ongoing investigation, and I will be in continued communication with TSA and the Department of Homeland Security in assessing this threat and the security measures in place to address it.”
