Highlighting National Police Week, Rep. Murphy Announces Nearly $500,000 in Recovery Act Funding for Crime Prevention and Technology Upgrades

(Bristol, PA) – Kicking off National Police Week, Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-PA) joined Police Chief James McAndrew and other Bucks County Police Chiefs at the Bristol Township Police Department to announce the receipt of nearly $500,000 in federal funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

"I’m proud to announce this critical funding for our brave, hardworking police officers,” said Congressman Patrick Murphy. “Recovery Act funding has kept cops from getting laid off and kept our communities safe.”

"The funding that the Bristol Township Police were fortunate to receive from the Recovery package will be used to support our officers and make sure they have the tools they need to do their jobs,” said Chief McAndrew. “I’m grateful to Congressman Patrick Murphy for supporting this important legislation and with it, the Bucks County police.”

The Recovery Act contains more than $4 billion for law enforcement and criminal justice activities to prevent police layoffs. With $458,000 going to Bucks County municipalities from Bensalem to Quakertown, money can be used for a variety of efforts such as staffing, crime prevention, corrections and information sharing.

The funds, announced Monday by Rep. Murphy, will be used by Bucks County communities to strengthen neighborhood safety, improve gang and drug crime prevention, and purchase or upgrade equipment.

The announcement coincides with the start of National Police Week, during which our nation pauses to recognize the service and sacrifices of the brave officers in U.S. law enforcement.
