Every day Congresswoman Eshoo and her staff help constituents to address problems encountered with federal agencies. Most often our work is directed to the IRS, the CIS, the Social Security Administration, and the Veterans Administration. We've helped thousands of constituents with their questions and their cases ... some enormously complex ... and made breakthroughs in the federal bureaucracy. We set high standards for ourselves to do literally everything we possibly can for our constituents.

The Privacy Act of 1974 requires that Members of Congress have written authorization from an individual before they can obtain information about his or her case. That's why we need you to write to our Palo Alto District Office outlining your problem and request that we assist you by contacting a particular agency on your behalf. Be sure to include your address, your phone number, and the pertinent information (i.e. claim numbers, receipt numbers,  etc.) For example, if your problem is with the Social Security Administration, we'll need your Social Security number. If your problem is with the Veteran's Administration, we'll need your case number or your Social Security number. If your problem is with the IRS, we'll need your taxpayer identification number or your Social Security number. If your problem is with the USCIS, then we'll need your alien registration number.

You can also fill out our Privacy Consent Form and fax it to us at (650) 323-3498. Copies of supporting documents or correspondence from the agency involved are also helpful for us to have, depending on the type of problem. If you have any questions about the information required, feel free to call the Palo Alto District Office.

* Note: Every Member of Congress is constrained by the House Ethics Rules from becoming involved in legal matters. If you have legal concerns and need advice, you can find a list of Free Legal Service Providers in our area here.
