Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), a long time advocate for labor and Member of the Education and Labor Committee, today attended the signing ceremony for several executive orders and the announcement of a White House Task Force on the middle-class at the White House, at the invitation of President Obama. Kucinich was just one of two Members of the House invited to attend the event.
The executive orders signed today will reverse a number of Bush administration policies that favored employers over workers. The orders will require federal contractors to offer jobs to current workers when contracts change; reverse a Bush order requiring federal contractors to post notice that workers can limit financial support of unions serving as their exclusive bargaining representatives; and prevent federal contractors from being reimbursed for expenses incurred to influence workers deciding whether to form a union.
“Labor is back at the White House with respect and appreciation, and with that comes renewed respect for tens of millions of working men and women. Now we must work together to restore our economy, to get people back to work, save homes and pensions and create a new health care system. I look forward to working with President Obama on this important matters and working with my friend Vice-President Biden on his task force,” stated Kucinich.
