Ros-Lehtinen Says Anniversary of ‘13th of March’ Tugboat Massacre is Reminder of Brutal Nature of Cuban Regime

(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, will speak on the House floor later today on the need to maintain pressure on the Cuban regime. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“I am taken aback every time an apologist for the Cuban regime glosses over the countless acts of depravity perpetrated by the dictatorship.

“The tugboat massacre, which took place 16 years ago today, simply and tragically illustrates the true nature of the Cuban tyranny without any room for interpretation. These are callous murderers.

“As we reflect upon this brutal attack on the ‘13th of March’ tugboat and honor the memory of those who died that day, we must also remember that their murderers remain in power in Havana, and are as ruthless as ever.

“There is no way to justify the regime’s actions, just as there is no way to justify changes to U.S. policy which would enrich and legitimize these remorseless tyrants whose list of victims continues to multiply.”
