Ros-Lehtinen Introduces House Resolution Recognizing the Anniversary of Greek Independence

(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, this week introduced House Resolution 1107, recognizing the 189th anniversary of Greek Independence and celebrating Greek and American democracy. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“One hundred and eighty-nine years ago, Greece liberated itself from the Ottoman Empire to become a free and sovereign country.

“Greece was one of the few countries that allied with the US in every major international conflict of the twentieth century.

“Today, Greece continues to contribute significantly to regional and international peacekeeping endeavors through its membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the European Union, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

“It is therefore my pleasure to introduce this resolution in recognition of the friendship between our countries and the shared beliefs in freedom and democracy that keep our alliance strong.”

Note: Ros-Lehtinen’s House Resolution 1107, recognizing the 189th anniversary of Greek Independence and celebrating Greek and American democracy, currently has over 40 bipartisan co-sponsors.
