(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, met this morning with His All Holiness, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, during a Member reception hosted by the Speaker of the House. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:
“I was honored this morning to meet with His All Holiness, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
“Religious freedom must never be taken for granted, and I strongly support the right of the Patriarchate to train clergy, own property, and determine for itself the criteria for Patriarchal succession.
“We must always stand by the rights of the Patriarchate so that the traditions and beliefs of the Greek Orthodox faith may continue to flourish.”
