About the 7th District

New York’s 7th Congressional District includes parts of two New York City boroughs, incorporating the northern parts of Queens and eastern portions of the Bronx. The district stretches from the northern boundary of New York City to the Long Island Expressway and is served by the 6 and 7 lines of the New York City subway.

The 7th District is one of the most diverse communities in the world, with nearly every culture and ethnicity represented. The district is home to neighborhoods such as Little India, Little Colombia, and Little Korea, as well as some of the city’s top universities, parks, and hospitals.

The Queens section of the district includes Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Maspeth, Elmhurst, East Elmhurst and College Point. It also includes LaGuardia International Airport and the New York Mets’ new baseball stadium, Citi Field, which will be open for the 2009 season. Queens is known for its vibrant ethnic makeup – where over 130 unique languages are spoken.

The 7th District is also home to a large portion of the Bronx, including Soundview, Pelham Parkway, Morris Park, Van Nest, Allerton, Parkchester, Throggs Neck, City Island, Silver Beach, and Co-op City, the largest cooperative housing development in the world. While the Bronx is the third most-densely-populated county in the U.S., it features some of New York City’s finest open spaces, including Pelham Bay Park, the New York Botanical Gardens, and the world-famous Bronx Zoo, home to over 4,000 animals and visited by 2 million people each year.
