Ros-Lehtinen Laments Death of Venezuelan Franklin Brito

(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement today following news of the death of Franklin Brito, who had been on a hunger strike in Venezuela to protest the heavy-handed tactics of the Chavez regime. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the family of Franklin Brito. His tragic death is an unfortunate reminder of the Chavez regime’s unforgiving assault against the rights and freedoms of the people of Venezuela.

“Chavez is continuing his attack on property rights, press freedom, human rights, and all forms of independent opposition each and every day. The situation is dire, and it is getting worse.

“The people of Venezuela need to know that we stand with them. Responsible nations cannot look the other way as Venezuela is dragged into the tyrannical abyss.”
