| Crowley Welcomes US Participation in Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Talks |
| Washington, D.C. — Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) released the following statement in support of the Obama Administration's announcement that the U.S. will engage in negotiations with the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP): "The Asia-Pacific region is one of the fastest growing markets in the world and home to nearly two-thirds of the world's population. If done sensibly, the expansion of trade agreements into the Asia-Pacific region has the potential to create American jobs, establish new markets for U.S. goods and services, and contribute significantly to our economic recovery. "I applaud today's announcement as a welcome step forward, and look forward to working with President Obama to expand opportunities across the globe for American businesses and workers and to promoting global stability through economic partnership." The Trans Pacific Partnership is at present a trade area between Brunei, Singapore, New Zealand and Chile. Prospective new members at present include the United States, Peru, Australia and Vietnam. Congressman Crowley is a co-chair of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Caucus and member of the exclusive House Committee on Ways and Means with jurisdiction over trade. He is also a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and chair of the New Democrat Coalition. ### |
