Crowley Hosts Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee in Washington, D.C.

Bronx Princesses and Princes Visit with Crowley and Tour the U.S. Capitol

Washington, D.C. – On Tuesday, June 8, Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) hosted members of the Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee in the capital for a luncheon and tour of the U.S. Capitol.  Congressman Crowley served as the grand marshal of this year’s parade, which was held on Sunday, May 16, in the Bronx and was the 20th anniversary of the parade.

“I was honored to serve as the Grand Marshal of the 2010 Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade, and it was a pleasure to host the princesses and princes of the parade for a tour of the U.S. Capitol,” said Congressman Crowley. “The young children who help lead the parade by serving as Borinquen royalty represent the best of the Bronx, and it was a pleasure to spend the day with them.”

The Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade is an annual event that pays tribute to the contributions of the Puerto Rican community to our city, state and country.  More than 300,000 Puerto Ricans reside in the Bronx – the largest concentration of Puerto Rican descendants outside of the island of Puerto Rico.

“A big thank you to Congressman Crowley for hosting the members of the Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee in Washington, DC. He played an important role in the success of this year’s parade, and we are so grateful to him for showing the young princesses and princes around our nation’s capital,” Francisco González, President of the Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee.

Congressman Crowley, a six-term member of the U.S. House of Representatives, represents New York’s 7th Congressional district (the Bronx, Queens), which is one of the most ethnically diverse districts in the United States. As one of nine Chief Deputy Whips, Congressman Crowley is the highest-ranking New York member in the leadership of the House Democratic Caucus and sits on the prestigious House Committee on Ways and Means and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
