Crowley Presents Make the Road New York with $300,000
Federal funds will be used for adult education and legal aid services |

Queens, N.Y. – Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) presented Make the Road with $300,000 in Federal funds to support ongoing adult education programming and legal aid initiatives. Make the Road, an organization committed to ensuring economic equality for all, will use the money for English-as-a-second language (ESL) and General Education Development (GED) high school equivalency classes, as well as to provide legal aid to low-income individuals. “Make the Road’s work to protect the rights of all and fight for economic equality is helping to keep our community strong,” said Congressman Joseph Crowley. “The $300,000 I secured for Make the Road will be put to good use by helping adults get a GED, attend ESL classes and obtain important legal aid.” Make the Road will use the $300,000 in Federal funding to provide services to low-income and working families in New York City. Specifically, these funds will be used for:
Congressman Crowley secured the funds from the Department of Health and Human Services through the Fiscal Year 2010 federal appropriations process. This is the second time Congressman Crowley has obtained money for Make the Road. In Fiscal Year 2008, he got $15,000 for Make the Road to support their after-school youth program. “Make the Road New York applauds Rep. Crowley for his support to make sure that immigrant communities have the assistance necessary to fully integrate into our communities,” said Ana Maria Archila, Co-Executive Director of Make the Road New York. Congressman Crowley is the six-term representative from the 7th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. ### |
