| Rep. Crowley Welcomes Indian PM to US |
| Washington, D.C. — Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), senior member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, released the following statement to welcome the Prime Minister of India to the United States on the first official state visit since the inauguration of President Barack Obama: "It is my great pleasure to welcome Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the United States on the first official state visit since the inauguration of President Barack Obama. "As vibrant democracies, the U.S. and India are natural international partners. I believe India has an important role on the global stage, a prominent position consistent with its deep and rich history. "We have already seen the positive results of cooperation between our two great nations - including increased trade and investment, coordination on environmental improvements and the signing of the civilian nuclear agreement. In the years ahead, I believe that United States and Indian cooperation will serve as a keystone of U.S. foreign policy. "I look forward to our nations working together to tackle some of the greatest issues of our time. I am proud to be a strong supporter of India and the Indian-American community and very much look forward to welcoming Prime Minister Singh." Congressman Crowley is a member of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia, and was a key proponent of the U.S.-Indian civilian nuclear cooperation agreement. As a past co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans, Congressman Crowley has visited India eight times and has worked extensively at home and abroad to strengthen the great friendship between the United States and India. ### |
