| Crowley Presents United Coalition Association with $10,000 in Federal Funds to Support Programs to Help Bronx Teens Stay in School and Reduce Gang Violence |

The $10,000 in Federal funds I secured will expand their reach so more at-risk youth in the Bronx will get the support they need.” “We are so happy – these funds will help expand our programs to help Bronx kids stay in school,” said Ron Savage, Founder and Executive Director, United Coalition Association. “If it wasn’t for Congressman Crowley’s help in securing this funding, we wouldn’t have been able to host our Annual Bronx College Fair Day that helps hundreds of students in the Bronx connect with higher education opportunities. Thank you to Congressman Crowley for his work on behalf of Bronx youth – he’s our superhero!” The United Coalition Association, led by Founder and Executive Director Ron Savage, has worked since 2005 with teens across the Bronx to increase graduation rates, reduce gang violence and increase access to educational opportunities. They have developed several key programs to help motivate Bronx teens to stay in school, working with them to establish positive role models and encourage college or vocational training after graduation. The United Coalition programs include: the Key to Success Program, a series of events with JHS 131 students on the importance of staying in school; workshops with Bronx police cadets and local youths to build mutual understanding and reduce crime; anti-gang public service announcements targeted at Bronx teens; and a highly successful Annual Bronx College Fair Day, to encourage all local students to seek higher education. Congressman Crowley is the six-term representative from the 7th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of the Bronx and Queens. Crowley established the Crime Stoppers program in Fiscal Year 2002 to provide small grants to community groups and organizations that are working to reduce crime and make quality of life improvements across the Bronx and Queens. Over the last seven years, he has secured more than $1.1 million for the Crime Stoppers initiative. ### |
