| Crowley Leads Round 10 of U.S.-China Interparliamentary Exchange Members of U.S. House of Representatives and China’s National Peoples Congress discuss global economy, human rights, climate change, proliferation, stability of the Korean peninsula, and other issues of international importance |
| (Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), chairman of the U.S.-China Interparliamentary Exchange, released the following statement after the completion of the 10th round of discussions held this week on Capitol Hill between members of the U.S. House of Representatives and China’s National People’s Congress: “The global economy has inextricably linked the United States and China. As two of the world’s largest economies, both of our nations have an obligation to be responsible global citizens. “The U.S.-China Interparliamentary Exchange, which is in its 11th year, is focused on increasing communication between our two countries and advancing discussions on how to address the world’s most pressing issues, such as climate change and weapons proliferation. “During this week's meetings, a bipartisan group of Members of Congress made clear to Chinese officials that with its growing influence, China must embrace the role of leading by example and we further pressed them to make progress in human rights, increasing market access for foreign companies and goods, including those from the US, and strengthening health and safety standards for goods. “The 10th round of the US-China Interparliamentary Exchange was productive for both nations and I thank Chairman Li and the entire Chinese delegation for the continued dialogue. I also thank Speaker Pelosi for the opportunity to chair these bilateral meetings and look forward to continuing our conversation on how to move our nations forward in partnership.” Congressman Crowley is a six-term member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and chair of the U.S.-China Interparliamentary Exchange. ### |
