Congressman Crowley Welcomes South Korea Sanctions on Iran

Washington, D.C. Today, Congressman Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), one of a select group of 24 members of Congress who negotiated the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability and Divestment Act (H.R. 2194), issued the following statement in support of the Republic of Korea’s decision to impose unilateral sanctions on Iran:

“I welcome the decision by South Korea to move forward with imposing sanctions on Iran. This move sends an important signal to Iran of the growing consensus amongst the international community that we must take firm and decisive action in preventing Iran from developing a nuclear program. It is now time for other nations to join in the effort to pressure Iran to meet its international obligations and halt its nuclear program. The world cannot afford to sit on the sidelines any longer – we all must do more.”

Crowley is a six-term member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He sits on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and served as one of 24 members of Congress on the House-Senate conference committee on the Iran Sanctions measure.
