Crowley Praises Passage of Provision Restoring Affordable Birth Control for Millions of Women Nationwide
The Crowley-authored provision included in the Omnibus will allow college health centers and low-income safety-net clinics to provide low cost birth control nationwide

Washington, D.C.
Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) released the following statement praising final Senate passage of a Crowley-authored provision to restore affordable birth control for millions of college-age and low-income women.  The provision, included in the Fiscal Year 2009 Omnibus Appropriations bill, will correct the error made in the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 (DRA) that unintentionally cut out safety-net providers like college health centers and low-income clinics from purchasing birth control at cost.

“At no-cost to the American taxpayer, this simple fix restores affordable access to safe, effective birth control for millions of college-age and low-income women,” said Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx).  “This provision will reduce unplanned pregnancies and eliminate a considerable financial burden for many women, especially those hit hardest by our current economic downturn.  I look forward to President Obama swiftly signing this measure into law.”
