Congressman Crowley Applauds Grant for Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to Soundproof Vaughn College From La Guardia Airport Noise

Crowley Urges Passage of FAA Reauthorization Act to Help Port Authority Soundproof Queens Homes Affected by Noise

Washington, D.C. Today, Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), author of an amendment to the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2009 (H.R. 915) that would enable the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) to address the issue of noise pollution in the neighborhoods surrounding La Guardia Airport, applauds the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) grant to the PANYNJ to fund soundproofing efforts at Vaughn College:

“I am pleased that the Department of Transportation has awarded a grant to the PANYNJ to make the necessary soundproofing updates to Vaughn College, shielding students and teachers from the constant noise of La Guardia Airport.

“For too long, students at Vaughn College, as well as thousands of Queens residents, have suffered from the disruptive noise of the airport. On top of the sheer nuisance, noise pollution can also pose serious health risks to residents and has the potential to diminish a student’s ability to concentrate in a classroom.

“Now, I urge my colleagues in Congress to move forward with the FAA Reauthorization Act and give the PANYNJ access to funds so it can continue to soundproof the neighborhoods in Queens affected by noise pollution. This measure will help make La Guardia Airport a better friend to its many neighbors.”

Congressman Crowley is the six-term representative from the 7th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is one of nine chief deputy whips and sits on the powerful Ways and Means Committee and Committee on Foreign Affairs.
