Congressman Crowley Applauds New York State’s Ban on Drop-Side Cribs

Washington, D.C. Today, Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), author of legislation (H.R. 5386) to prohibit the manufacture, sale, resale or public use in hotels or daycares of drop-side cribs, released the following statement praising New York State’s ban on drop-side cribs, making New York one of nine states to issue a statewide ban on these dangerous cribs:

“I applaud Governor Paterson for signing into law a statewide ban on drop-side cribs, bringing us one step closer to getting drop-side cribs off shelves and out of homes.

“Too many families across New York, as well as the rest of the country, have experienced an unnecessary tragedy because of these dangerous cribs. This why Senator Gillibrand and I created legislation to establish a nationwide ban on drop-side cribs, and we will continue to push our bill through until the President signs it and drop-side cribs are no longer a threat to our children.”

Congressman Crowley is the six-term representative from the 7th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is one of nine chief deputy whips and sits on the powerful Ways and Means Committee and Committee on Foreign Affairs.
