Congressman Crowley on U.S.-Israeli Relations: Time to Restore Trust and Move Ahead

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, released the following statement today on the situation in the Middle East:

“Israel is an ally of the United States and I support a deep, enduring relationship.  Prime Minister Netanyahu has apologized and explained the inadvertent timing regarding the announcement to construct apartments in East Jerusalem, and now it is time to restore full trust and move ahead.  I believe it is important to be mindful that any public strain in the U.S.-Israeli relationship may inadvertently embolden our mutual enemies.  At a time when we face mutual, serious challenges in the Middle East – in particular, Iran’s nuclear program and the need for a comprehensive peace agreement – there is simply too much to lose from division.  United, we will work together to ensure security and build peace in the region.  As a member of the Middle East and South Asia Subcommittee in the Committee on Foreign Affairs, I will continue to press for a strong, long-lasting U.S.-Israel relationship."
