Congressman Crowley Applauds Obama Administration’s National HIV/AIDS Strategy

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), the author of a bill that would encourage routine HIV/AIDS testing for everyone ages 13-64 (H.R. 3091), issued the following statement praising the release of the Obama Administration’s National HIV/AIDS Strategy:

“I applaud the Obama Administration for releasing a national plan to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS in the United States. The Administration’s ambitious framework aims to reduce infection rate by 25 percent over the next five years by encouraging more testing and providing those recently infected and those currently living with the disease access to quality care.  

“With nearly 1.1 million Americans and 106,000 New Yorkers currently living with the diseases, today’s announcement is a positive step forward and gives all Americans renewed hope that the United States is on track to eradicate this disease once and for all. 

“I now call on my colleagues in Congress to join me in implementing the initiatives outlined in the strategy, including passage of my legislation to make HIV/AIDS testing routine care for all young adults.”

Congressman Crowley is a six-term representative from the 7th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx.  He sits on the powerful Ways and Means Committee and is one of nine chief deputy whips in the U.S. House of Representatives.
