Congressman Crowley Welcomes U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Proposed Ban on Drop-Side Cribs

Washington, D.C.Today, Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), author of legislation (H.R. 5386) to prohibit the manufacture, sale, resale or public use in hotels or daycares of drop-side cribs, released the following statement applauding the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) proposed ban on drop-side cribs:

“I welcome today’s action by the Consumer Product Safety Commission proposing a ban on drop-side cribs.

“The safety of our children is not something we can take for granted. Too many tragedies have occurred because of these cribs and it is time we take strong action to prevent further senseless deaths.

“This is why Senator Gillibrand and I introduced legislation to ban these cribs altogether. We will continue working to secure passage of our measure and send it to the President for his signature. It is the best and only way we will truly protect the health and safety of our children.”

Congressman Crowley is the six-term representative from the 7th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is one of nine chief deputy whips and sits on the powerful Ways and Means Committee and Committee on Foreign Affairs.
