Congressman Crowley Welcomes Mayor Bloomberg’s Testimony on Immigration Reform

Washington, D.C. Today, Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), one of nine chief deputy whips, issued the following statement welcoming New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, and International Law.

“Mayor Bloomberg’s testimony today highlights the importance of comprehensive immigration reform, not just for New York City, but for our entire nation.

“Comprehensive immigration reform is more than a national security issue or moral imperative – it is an economic necessity. Immigration reform will protect American workers and create jobs by ensuring that honest businesses are not undercut by companies employing undocumented workers.  It will also ensure that all workers pay into our tax system.

“I am proud to be a leader in the fight for comprehensive immigration reform, and I thank Mayor Bloomberg and the Subcommittee for maintaining their focus on this critical issue. I hope that my colleagues in Congress will push politics aside and join me in passing comprehensive reform as soon as possible.”

Congressman Crowley is the six-term representative from the 7th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee and the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
