Federal Officials To Hear Concerns And Discuss Guidelines

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan (FL-13) announced today that he will host a public forum to discuss concerns regarding defective Chinese Drywall. Buchanan invited officials from the U.S. Department of Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) to hear concerns and present findings to homeowners struggling to rid their properties of toxic drywall.

“Hundreds of Florida homeowners are suffering from the significant property damage and health concerns associated with defective Chinese Drywall,” said Buchanan. “This forum will give them an opportunity to share their concerns and receive helpful information regarding the recently issued guidelines to remediate the drywall.”

Acting Assistant Executive Director of USCPSC’s Office of Compliance, Jay Howell and Director of Congressional Relations, Chris Day will participate in the event. Homeowners are invited to attend the forum, which will be held at 6:00 p.m. on October 12, 2010 in the Commission Chamber on the first floor of the Sarasota County Administration Center, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota, Florida (Map Below). Please take a moment to RSVP Online (below).

Buchanan is a member of the Congressional Chinese Drywall Caucus, which is involved in several efforts to deal with the crisis, including requesting emergency funding for the relevant federal agencies to perform necessary testing, urging cooperation between mortgage lenders and their customers to abate mortgage payments for affected homeowners, and the passage of legislation calling for a study on the impact of this issue on the greater issue of foreclosures.
