Nathan Lee of North Port With Congressman Buchanan

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Vern Buchanan (FL-13) helped present the E-911 Institute’s 911 Advocacy Award for 2010 to Nathan Lee of North Port last night in Washington, D.C. Lee’s wife, Denise Amber Lee was kidnapped, raped and murdered in 2008 despite four emergency 911 calls that were placed to various law enforcement agencies. Since then, Lee has created the Denise Amber Lee Foundation and lobbied the state to raise standards for its 235 emergency call systems.

“The abduction and murder of Nathan’s wife, Denise Amber Lee was a horrific crime,” said Buchanan. “The fact that it may have been prevented makes it all the more tragic. I applaud Nathan for working to turn a tragedy into something positive that could help save lives in the future and congratulate him for receiving this prestigious award.”

The E-911 Institute is a Washington D.C. advocacy group that promotes public education on E9-1-1 and emergency communications issues.
