Exec Order on Biological Threats Mirrors Homeland WMD Bill

July 2, 2010 (WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the below statement following President Obama’s Executive Order on the security of biological select agents and toxins in the United States.

“With the issuance of this order, the President took a major step forward in addressing one of our most significant homeland security challenges—the threat of a biological attack, said Thompson. As with the WMD Prevention and Preparedness Act of 2010, which is moving through the House, the order requires the Federal government to develop security enhancements to help prevent biological agents and toxins, like smallpox and anthrax, from getting in the hands of terrorists.”
