Sen. Franken Gets Veteran Overdue Medals
Earlier this month, Sen. Franken presented several long-overdue medals to Erick Skoglund, a St. Paul U.S. Army veteran. Skoglund, who served in Vietnam, originally reached out to Sen. Franken's office to see if he could get his medals replaced after they were lost in a tragic house fire nearly 30 years ago. Sen. Franken and his staff worked with the National Personnel Records Center in Washington, D.C. to determine that Skoglund was not only eligible for the medals he lost in the 1981 fire, but also additional service medals he had never received.
Mr. Skoglund said that after he made his request he thought the office would simply mail him his replacement medals. He was overwhelmed when he learned that Sen. Franken wanted to meet him in person to give him his medals and thank him for his service.
On November 20th, Sen, Franken held a special certmony in his St. Paul office for Mr. Skoglund to present him with his medals. You can see pictures from the ceremony on Sen. Franken's Flickr page.
