IRS no longer mailing paper income tax packages

Monday, October 4, 2010

Recently, the IRS announced that they will no longer mail paper income tax filing packages via post. The reason for this change is because of the significant increase in electronic filings and a large decrease in the number of paper filings. According to the IRS, only eight percent of individuals who filed tax returns last year received tax filing packages in the mail.

In early October, the IRS will notify by mail all individuals who filed by mail last year of this change. Paper tax forms and instructions will be readily available at: IRS.gov, local IRS offices, participating libraries and post offices.
