Washington, DC – Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement in response to an effort by Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (IN-06) to force the Federal Reserve to turn away from its mission to create jobs and put Americans back to work.

“The American people sent one clear message in the midterm elections – jobs, jobs, jobs.  They expect Washington to do more to create jobs and get our economy moving again.  Already, Washington Republicans are taking their eyes off that goal of job creation and turning their backs on the needs of the American people.  The Republican proposal to limit the scope of the Federal Reserve from its job-creating mission is the exact opposite of what we should be doing right now.  As I’ve said before, we will work with Republicans where we can to create jobs and rebuild the economy, but we will not let them the turn the clock back to a time when our economy was hemorrhaging jobs and average Americans were seeing their life savings disappear.”
