Honoring America’s Veterans
Today we come together as a nation to honor the brave men and women who serve our country by keeping America safe. Without the brave efforts of our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and Coast Guardsmen, our nation would not live so freely. For their service and sacrifice, we owe a great debt to our veterans and to their families.
Over the last four years, under Democratic Leadership, Congress has taken historic steps to support those who have served in our nation’s armed forces. The Defense Authorization bill will invest billions into the latest technology to ensure our troops have the equipment and armor they need on the battlefield. We increased military pay by 3.4%, expanded TRICARE coverage, ensured advanced funding, and enhanced treatment for PTSD and other trauma for millions of veterans. And our new G.I. bill will provide up to 2 million warriors of our recent wars the opportunity to get a full, four-year college education.
Today we renew our commitments to our nation’s 3 million troops and reservists, and 23 million veterans, whose patriotic sacrifices we will not soon forget.
