New loan program will make your home more energy efficient and create clean energy jobs

Did you know that more than 90% of the materials used to cut energy costs and use are made in America? Democrats in Congress are committed to promoting these innovative new products that create American jobs, improve our energy efficiency, and save American families money.

This week we will vote on the Rural Energy Savings Program Act, which will provide loans to Americans to make their homes more energy efficient. Increased demand for American-made energy efficiency products will create manufacturing jobs at home and create work for installers – jobs that can’t be outsourced.

The bill is part of our Make it in America initiative, a national manufacturing strategy to build high-skill, high-wage jobs of the future – promoting American competitiveness, innovation, and exports. Democrats believe that America must remain a global leader in manufacturing in the face of competition from countries like China and Brazil. We fought to close tax loopholes that encourage corporations to ship American jobs overseas, even as Congressional Republicans fought us every step of the way in their attempts to take us back to the failed economic policies of the Bush administration.

We are also working to strengthen rules that require that the government and its contractors buy American-made products. Today Democrats passed legislation to require that Congress and the Department of Homeland Security buy American-made products whenever possible, the first of such requirements since “Buy American” rules were instituted for federal agencies under President Roosevelt in 1933.

Take a look at some of the other recent legislation we’ve passed to help US businesses to Make it in America.
