The Crane Learning and Employment Center (CLEC) for Veterans With Disabilities is an example of how a consortium of federal and state government agencies working with local education and training institutions and private sector companies can improve the lives of our Wounded Warriors.

CLEC represents the combined efforts of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the US Department of Labor, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Vincennes University, Ivy Tech, EG&G, and the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC).

The program enrolls disabled veterans in a comprehensive program of employment at Crane NSWC and formal education and training at Vincennes University and Ivy Tech through VA’s vocational rehabilitation and employment program.  Upon graduation, the disabled veteran has a choice of full time employment at Crane or elsewhere in the private sector. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development, EG&G and the Eli Lilly Foundation provide grant funding for the program to support administration and cover expenses such as moving the veterans’ families to the Crane area.  Program participants receive their medical care through the Richard Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.
