The Coastal Heritage Society in Savannah Awarded a $37,857 Grant from the National Park Service PDF Print

Washington, DC - 12th District Georgia Congressman John Barrow (D-Savannah) today announced that Coastal Heritage Society in Savannah has been awarded a $37,857 federal grant from the National Park Service's American Battlefield Protection Program.  The grant will help fund the group's ongoing efforts to identify and preserve revolutionary war battlefields in and around Savannah.

"Protecting our nation's battlefields preserves a piece of American history for future generations," Barrow said.  "It's as much about protecting history as it is about encouraging education, and this grant will go a long way in helping the Costal Heritage Society continue its work identifying and preserving Savannah's unique history."

With the help of this grant, the Coastal Heritage Society battlefield preservation efforts will include documenting the history of likely battlefield sites, developing long term research and preservation designs, and presenting findings to the public, the City of Savannah, the State of Georgia, the National Park Service, and concerned conservation and historical organizations.

"We are deeply grateful for the assistance Congressman Barrow and other members of our state's Congressional delegation provided in helping us secure this grant, so we can unearth new evidence of the under-reported story of the Revolutionary War in Savannah," said Michael Jordan, of the Coastal Heritage Society.
