GENERAL INFORMATION Before a candidate can receive an offer of appointment to a service academy, the candidate must obtain a nomination from an authorized source. As a U. S. Congressman, Representative Cooper is able to submit nominations from his constituency. A student can also apply for nominations through U. S. Senators and the Vice President. If a parent is presently on active duty and has served in the military for at least eight years or is retired, a student may apply for a presidential nomination through the military. Children of deceased or disabled veterans or children of Medal of Honor winners may apply for a nomination directly from the service academies. Congressman Cooper is now accepting nomination applications from students who are interested in attending one of the nation's military academies: *does not require a nomination Applications for the Class of 2015 (entering in July, 2011) are due by November 15, 2010. Acceptance of an offer of appointment from an academy involves at least a nine year obligation to military service - four years at the academy and five years of active duty service. ACADEMY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS The applicant must: - be at least 17 years old but not have passed the 23rd birthday on July 1 of the year entering the academy (except for the Merchant Marine Academy).
- be unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents (except for the Merchant Marine Academy).
NOMINATION PROCESS The applicant must: - apply for admission directly to each academy in which he/she is interested. The student must take the responsibility to contact the academy(ies) and complete a Pre-Candidate Questionnaire to begin the application process.

- be interviewed by Congressman Cooper's Academy Selection Committee.
GENERAL ACADEMY ADMISSIONS & NOMINATION STANDARDS The applicant must: - have evidence of good moral character

- have participated in extracurricular activities
- be personally motivated to attend the academy and to serve in our armed forces
