House Committee on Science and Technology
Established as a select committee after the launching of the Russian satellite Sputnik in 1957, the Committee became the first new permanent committee established in the House since 1892. Originally the Committee was focused on space exploration, but over the years its jurisdiction has expanded to include almost all non-defense federal scientific research and development. This history will chronicle the hearings and major legislative achievements of the Committee over its fifty year existence.
