Congressman Boehner calls for common-sense reform to lower health care costs for middle-class families and small businesses at a press event outside the Capitol last year.

On March 23, 2010 President signed a massive 2,562 page health care bill into law. In the weeks since that March day, I’ve used my E-Bulletin to share the latest on the law’s implementation – including the area small businesses who say the tax increases, regulations, and mandates associated with the new health care law advocated by President Obama will hurt their ability to retain and hire new employees.

These local small businesses are not alone. Only three percent of employers say that their health care costs won’t increase as a result of the 2,000 page law Washington Democrats passed through Congress in March, according to the Associated Press.

But that's not all. New provisions in the law will affect families and our seniors as well. In fact, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) warns that premiums in the individual market will actually rise by as much as $2,100 under the law. It also imposes $570 billion in higher taxes and $523 billion in Medicare cuts - including cuts to innovative and popular Medicare Advantage coverage that serves roughly 26,000 Eighth Congressional District seniors.

These news updates and other important information are included in my recently released progress report examining how the president’s new law is performing on benchmarks of controlling health care costs, creating jobs, and extending quality of care for our seniors. I encourage you to check out this report for yourself.

The American people deserve better – and they’ve been speaking out all year in town halls, letters to my office, and online at AmericaSpeakingOut.com. That's why I’m fighting to repeal this controversial new law so we can start over with common-sense reforms that get health-care reform right.

Through repeal, we can do away with these tax hikes and replace them with affordable solutions to lower costs and cover Americans with pre-existing conditions. We can repeal Medicare cuts that take choice and benefits away from seniors to fund a new entitlement program and replace them with reforms that strengthen Medicare for seniors today and tomorrow. We can repeal all the Washington accounting gimmicks and replace them with honest policies where you get what you pay for. And we can repeal all the backroom deals that use money we don’t have to purchase support for controversial legislation.

It didn't have to come to this. I supported an alternative step-by-step, common-sense approach to health care reform that the CBO confirmed would have lowered premiums by up to 10 percent, without imposing tax increases on families and small businesses. To read more about our plan, click here.
