About the Caucus

The Congressional Rural Caucus is a bipartisan working group of members dedicated to addressing the pressing and unique issues facing America’s rural communities. The body serves to collectively address these challenges and promote legislation that includes sound rural policies. The Caucus is chaired by Congressmen Travis Childers (MS-01) and Adrian Smith (NE-03), and vice-chaired by Congressmen Glenn Thompson (PA-05) and Tim Walz (MN-01).

As its first order of business, the Caucus sent a letter to the President calling for the White House to establish an Office of Rural Policy in response to the administration’s creation of an Office of Urban Policy. Caucus Members have also held a meeting with FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski to discuss the development of a National Broadband Plan and how its implementation can best benefit rural communities.
