WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Mike Michaud praised the announcement that J & M Machining, Inc. in Skowhegan, Maine has received approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce for $30,000 in technical assistance through the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) for Firms program.  J & M Machining, which employs nine workers in Skowhegan, is a manufacturer of precision machined parts for industrial machinery.  The purpose of the TAA for Firms program is to help domestic manufacturers compete more effectively with imports.

“I am pleased that this investment has been approved,” said Michaud.  “It will provide J & M Machining with additional tools to grow their business and compete more effectively with foreign competitors.”

According to the Department of Commerce, the investment announced today will cover the cost of: ISO 9001 Certification; financial restructuring to lower interest rates and improve cash flow; web site and search improvement to increase sales by 10%; and sales collateral and promotional design to increase client prospects by 10%.

“Providing important investments to boost competitiveness is important.  But moving forward, we must also make sure that our businesses are competing on a level global playing field so that they can grow and create jobs here in the United States,” said Michaud.
