Washington, DC – On September 10, 2010, Rep. Steve Rothman (D-NJ), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, was invited by St. Peter’s College to speak at the opening of the Center for Microplasma, Science, and Technology (CMST) because of his essential role in appropriating funds for the facility. Joining Rep. Rothman were Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Rep. Albio Sires (D-NJ), Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, and administrators from St. Peter’s College. Microplasmas possess remarkable properties applicable to a variety of medical, defense, and industrial technologies, which will save lives and improve operations at home and on the battlefield. As a member of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, Rep. Rothman was instrumental in securing two million in federal dollars for the Center, bringing the total amount of funds brought back for St. Peter’s College to $3.45 million since 2004. CMST is the first and only facility of its kind devoted entirely to the emerging field of microplasma research in the United States, and will provided much-needed jobs to New Jersey.
