Washington, DC – On September 7, 2010, Representative Steve Rothman (NJ-9) was joined by New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno and Port Authority Deputy Executive Director Bill Baroni to recognize the great work that the Fair Lawn Rescue Squad does faithfully every day and specifically the heroism this squad showed on September 11, 2001. The ceremony took place outside the rescue squad’s headquarters where they unveiled a four foot section of steel from the World Trade Center. It had been stored in a special hangar overseen by the Port Authority at the John F. Kennedy International Airport and had to be approved for release to Fair Lawn by a federal judge. The piece will stand in honor of the rescue squad’s work and as a memorial to the three thousand innocent victims, including three Fair Lawn residents – Susan Huie, Jennifer Kane, and Richard Rosenthal – who lost their lives on that fateful day nine years ago.
