Washington, DC – On September 13, 2010, Representative Steve Rothman (NJ-9), a member of the House Science and Technology Committee, congratulated schools in Fort Lee, North Arlington, and Ridgefield Park for the prestigious honor of being designated as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. The Blue Ribbon award is given to schools that have performed at the highest levels or that have made significant progress in closing student achievement gaps – especially among disadvantaged and minority students.
“I am very proud to congratulate Fort Lee Elementary School No. 3, Ridgefield Park's Grant Elementary School, and North Arlington's Roosevelt Elementary School for their achievement as 2010 Blue Ribbon Schools. This award is a testament to the outstanding students, teachers, administration, and parents at these schools and I am privileged to recognize their commitment to educational excellence,” said Rep. Rothman. “I look forward to greeting and personally congratulating these schools in Washington, DC at the Department of Education's Awards Ceremony in November.”
After a rigorous application process, ten schools in New Jersey received the Blue Ribbon award, including three in the 9th Congressional District: Fort Lee Elementary School No. 3 of Fort Lee, Grant Elementary School of Ridgefield Park, and Roosevelt Elementary School of North Arlington.
The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private schools and is part of a larger Department of Education effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about best school leadership and teaching practices.
