Washington, DC – On Tuesday June 15, 2010, Representative Steve Rothman (D-NJ) welcomed three students from the Bergen Arts & Science Charter School in Garfield, NJ to Washington, DC. Representative Rothman congratulated these young scientists for winning awards in the International Sustainable World Project Olympiad. The students – Mitch Haverty, Angus Fung and Zoey Zibor – showed their awards and described what knowledge they learned from their research with Representative Rothman.

The International Sustainable World Project Olympiad is a groundbreaking science fair and is the largest event of its kind in the world. Angus Fung and Mitch Haverty received the Silver Medal for their project titled “Algae Ethanol: Fuel of the future.” Zoey Zibor received the Bronze Medal for a project titled “The Warderclyff Tower revisited,” and also received the HUNSTEM (Houston Urban Network for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Award for Excellence.
