Washington, DC -- On Wednesday, June 16, 2010, Prostate Net and the Georgetown University Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center invited Representative Steve Rothman (D-NJ) to speak at a Capitol Hill briefing on prostate cancer. The purpose of the briefing was to describe the need for increased prostate cancer research funding, the progress that has been made in this field, and the objectives that still need to be achieved.
"Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men, and our second-leading cause of cancer death. In 2009 alone, there were 192,280 new cases of prostate cancer diagnosed, and it claimed the lives of 27,360 men," said Rep. Rothman. "As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for increased funding for cancer research awareness, prevention, and treatment."
